Letter From The President

Portland Gun Club Members,

My name is Kelly Whitlock. I have been nominated as your new President. I have been a part of this great club as a board member for nearly 10 years. As part of the board we have had many challenges. With great leadership from past presidents we have overcome many hurdles and kept the club as a safe and fun atmosphere for you to enjoy.

My goals and challenges as your new president are to concentrate on club maintenance and keeping our shot reclaiming project going. I am writing this letter not only to introduce myself (for those of you who don't know me) but to share my goals for the club, and to ask for your help in achieving them.

We need volunteer labor. Mostly for our registered shoots (PITA, Elks, and Memorial shoots). If we can get just a couple of volunteer scorer's a shoot, it will make a difference in our bottom line. Donation of time and or labor is what will help us stay profitable.

There are a lot of maintenance projects that need to be completed around the club. Volunteers are a great help but it can be difficult to organize groups of people to get them done. We all have families and jobs that demand priority. This is why I am asking the membership for a hand. I am not one to ask for help, and as a small business owner I know how hard the current economic times are. What the club needs are financial donations. I am compiling a list of projects that the club needs to get completed.

  • The roof: We have been putting this off for a while now and have gotten by. It has been
getting patched year after year and we can't keep up. It is time to replace it.

  • Kitchen Area

  • New Concrete walkways

  • Gravel for Roadways

  • Pressure washing of existing concrete

  • Club house maintenance

  • Carpet, paint and ceiling

  • Tarps for shot reclaiming

Asking for money in our economy is difficult for me to do. If that is not possible in your situation please come out and shoot. The only was we make money is throwing targets. I am putting together a spring shooting league and we have been successful with our Thursday night happy hour. So bring your friends, families and co-workers out to shoot. If you have friends of families that are new to shooting or have an interest in trying it, pass the word on to them. If they don't own a shotgun a call to me or the club we can arrange for one they can try out.

Have any ideas or comments on how we can make the club better please contact the club 503-492-8752 or me directly. You can also check out our website at www.portlandgunclub.org.

Thank you for taking time to read this. I encourage all of you to get involved and help out with the club. It is through you, our members, that the club will continue to be successful into the future.

Kelly Whitlock, President
